This was an older painting that I went back into. The gesture of the figure had a kind of aristocratic, 1700's feel to it so I ran with it. I got an image of Bela Lugosi from his "Dracula" film and used that. I never paint a figure with the intent of capturing a likeness. It is rather the expression or gesture that I am more interested in. What came out was an expression of befuddlement.
